DHS Reports More Than 180 Vehicle Attacks On Law Enforcement

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported 182 vehicular attacks on immigration officers between January 2025 and January 2026. Custom and Border Protection (CBP) officers experienced 114 attacks, marking a 124% increase. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers faced 68 attacks, a 3,300% surge. Several incidents involved illegal immigrants using vehicles to harm officers, including one in which a Guatemalan immigrant injured an ICE officer. Another case involved suspected gang members weaponizing their vehicle against Border Patrol agents. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem warned that those attacking officers would face legal consequences. DHS attributed the violence to criticisms and rhetoric comparing immigration enforcement to negative historical organizations. Some Democratic lawmakers criticized immigration enforcement methods, citing shootings and alleged brutality. Senator Alex Padilla justified his vote against DHS funding due to perceived cruelty by ICE and CBP. DHS also reported an 8,000% increase in death threats and a 1,300% surge in assaults against law enforcement. The DHS and its officials are calling for an end to the violence and dehumanization of those officers.
