Disneyland of Robots in Serra ... Note

Disneyland of Robots in Serra Negra, Brazil

Located in the São Paulo highlands, about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from the capital, lies an unusual attraction called Serra Negra’s House of Robots. This colorful house features 1980s scrap-metal humanoids that animate on command. The environment evokes a sense of unconventional traveling circuses and oddity shows, akin to a post-apocalyptic dream entertainment complex. The attractions include Rube Goldberg machines, a Robots’ Disco, a mechanized mini-city, and metal dinosaurs. What makes it unique is the display of eclectic oddities alongside the mechanized creations. Excessive, grandiloquent explanatory signs, often in multiple languages, accompany the exhibits. These signs are joined by exclamatory notes, stickers, and magazine cutouts featuring anatomical models and Cold War reports. Dubious health advice is presented in a carefree radio-ad tone, covering the walls without overstimulating. Visitors navigate twisting mazes and corridors, encountering ancient-Egypt-inspired items, weapon replicas, and a water mill surrounded by kitsch sculptures. A viewpoint tower offers a view of the town’s cemetery. Three modified cars are parked outside to protect the façade, and a sponsored locomotive-on-wheels sometimes visits.
