Django Weblog: Announcing the Search for a DSF Executive Director
The Django Software Foundation is hiring its first Executive Director thanks to a significant pledge from six Django web development agencies. These agencies, Caktus Group, Lincoln Loop, Six Feet Up, Cuttlesoft, OddBird, and Two Rock, collectively contributed $47,500 to fund the role's first year. This funding marks a crucial step from discussing the need for an ED to actively recruiting one. The Executive Director position is necessary because the DSF has grown considerably, undertaking numerous responsibilities that have long been managed by dedicated but limited volunteer board members. This new paid role will handle daily operations, sponsorship, community outreach, and financial reporting. The agencies decided to collaborate because of their shared reliance on Django, recognizing the need for sustainability and long-term viability of the framework. Their contributions, ranging from $2,500 to $12,500, reflect a significant investment for their businesses. While this pledge is a strong start, the DSF is increasing its annual fundraising goal to $500,000 to sustain the ED role and other vital programs. The foundation is now asking other companies that benefit from Django to contribute to this essential infrastructure. The hiring process is being formalized, and the job posting will be announced soon across various community channels.
