Django Weblog: Proposed change to DSF voting membership

The organization is proposing a new voting membership status to accurately track active members and ensure election validity. Members who have voted in a Board election within the last two years will be automatically considered active and count towards quorum. Members who have not voted recently will remain members but will not count towards quorum until they explicitly opt-in to vote. This change aims to address the difficulty in reaching quorum as membership grows, a common issue in many nonprofits. Similar to the Python Software Foundation, this new status will simplify quorum calculations. Membership status will not be lost, and members will still be listed on the website. Active status specifically impacts quorum calculations, not general membership. The organization plans to send election reminders and post updates to ensure members are informed. To vote, individuals should contact the organization before an election opens to be added to the active roll. Feedback on this proposed bylaw change is requested by October 7, 2026, via GitHub or the members-only forum. The Board will review all comments before a potential vote on October 8th.
