Django Weblog: Quarterly contributor outreach
The Django Steering Council is seeking community contributions for Django 6.2. They are highlighting major features that require testing and review, such as CompositeField for multi-column subqueries and the DEFAULT_PK_FIELD setting for alternative primary keys like UUIDs. The council also points to a talk on testing projects against Django's main branch, which can be adapted to test specific feature branches. Smaller features also need attention, including adding QuerySet.executed_queries, partitioned cookies, support for the HTTP QUERY method, and improved CSRF debug messaging behind proxies. The New Features queue is also a focus, with ideas categorized by the type of input needed. Several ideas requiring technical vetting include customizing model Meta and migration generation, implementing modern CSRF protection, adding a timeout API for tasks, subresource integrity, and incorporating import maps. For those with limited time, community input on existing ideas is encouraged through emoji reactions, especially the 😕 emoji to indicate a review has been seen. Specific ideas needing community feedback include better hooks for password reset email customization, PR help for Git documentation, service URL parsing, standardizing task execution order, updating AuthenticationMiddleware, and supporting Unicode email addresses via SMTP. The council thanks the community and encourages participation through the Django Forum or Discord.
