DNC, RNC pipe bomb suspect said something "snapped" after 2020 election, DOJ alleges

Brian J. Cole Jr. confessed to planting pipe bombs near the RNC and DNC headquarters. He stated he felt the 2020 election results were tampered with, prompting him to act. Cole explained he wanted "to do something to the parties," as he disliked both. Initially, he denied involvement, claiming he went to D.C. to protest the election. However, Cole later admitted to planting the bombs, expressing relief they did not detonate. He also claimed his actions were not aimed at Congress or the January 6th events. Prosecutors highlight the bombs were viable and could have caused harm, endangering many people. Cole was arrested on December 4th and charged with using an explosive device. The FBI's investigation, which lasted nearly five years, utilized bank and cell records to link Cole to the crime. The filing emphasized the risk the bombs posed to numerous individuals, including political leaders.
