DOCKERIZING A NOTE WEB APP THAT SAVES ITS DATA IN A PostgreSQL Database AND DEPLOYING IT ON AZURE IN THREE (3) DIFFERENT WAYS.
This blog post presents three methods for securely and efficiently hosting an application on Azure. The first approach utilizes Azure Container Instances, which involves building a Docker image locally, publishing it to Docker Hub, and then deploying it to Azure using an aci-notes.yaml configuration file. This method allows direct deployment of containers. The second option, Web App for Containers with a managed PostgreSQL database, is highlighted as the recommended pattern. Azure manages aspects like backups, patching, and scaling, while the application runs on a platform designed for containerized web apps with built-in features. The third method involves using a Virtual Machine with Docker Compose, providing users with complete control over the server environment and allowing them to install Docker and run compose files manually. This approach is suitable when custom software or specific networking configurations are required. Each method necessitates an Azure account, a Docker Hub account, and Docker Desktop installed locally. After deploying an application, it's crucial to clean up by deleting resource groups to avoid incurring unnecessary charges. The example demonstrates testing the application locally and then deploying it to Azure.
