Doom Developer id Software Is Reportedly Losing Half Its Staff
Doom developer id Software is reportedly experiencing significant layoffs, with approximately half of its staff being affected. This amounts to around 90 employees losing their jobs. While neither Microsoft nor id Software have officially confirmed these numbers, a former employee has corroborated the fifty percent figure on social media. The exact departments within id Software that have been most impacted remain unknown at this time. These cuts are occurring amidst a broader restructuring within Microsoft's Xbox division. Parent company ZeniMax Media is said to be prioritizing its major franchises, including Doom. This strategic shift might be a contributing factor to the layoffs at id Software. The studio has recently announced Doom: The Dark Ages, slated for a 2025 release and an expansion in July 2026. These developments suggest a continued focus on the Doom franchise despite the workforce reductions. Microsoft's Xbox has already laid off 1,600 employees and intends to cut an additional 1,600 in the near future.
