Edit your Google Drive videos in your browser, using Google Vids
Google Vids now offers a quicker way for users to start editing videos directly from Google Drive. When previewing a video in Drive, an "Open" button will appear, launching the video file into Google Vids. This integration allows users to immediately begin editing tasks such as trimming clips, adding music, and inserting text. The feature supports various file types, with individual clips limited to 35 minutes and 4 GB. Upon opening a video file in Vids, a new Vids file is created, and users must save or export it to a non-Vids editable format. Admins will find Vids enabled by default, with the option to disable it organization-wide, provided Google Docs are active in the domain. End users can access Vids on computers using recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge on Windows. Google offers a free online training course for educators and a summary one-pager for quick guidance on Vids. The rollout is extended, beginning August 21, 2025, for both Rapid and Scheduled Release domains. This functionality is available across various Google Workspace editions, including Business, Enterprise, Essentials, Nonprofits, and Education tiers, as well as through Gemini add-ons and Google AI Pro/Ultra.
