Educators can now create and assign NotebookLM and Gems in Google Classroom

Google Classroom is enhancing its AI capabilities by integrating NotebookLM and Gems. Educators can now create interactive AI learning experiences for students directly within Classroom using their own course materials. NotebookLM allows teachers to generate study guides, audio overviews, and mind maps grounded solely in uploaded content. Additionally, teachers can customize Gemini into "Gems" to create unique interactive tools for students. These Gems leverage learning science research to promote understanding and knowledge testing rather than simply providing answers. Once created, these resources will be accessible to students on their Classwork page, either as a general learning resource or as part of an assignment. This integration aims to simplify the creation of AI-powered learning tools and keep educators informed about student AI interactions. Admins need to enable NotebookLM and Gemini/Gems sharing for these features to be available. Teachers can create these AI resources through the Coursework page or the "Create" menu within Classroom. Students will access them directly through the Classwork page. The features are rolling out starting September 24, 2025, and are available for Google Workspace Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus editions.
