El Nino Heat Wave Fuels HVAC Boom: Goldman Maps The Trade
El Niño, a weather phenomenon known for raising temperatures and intensifying weather extremes, is poised to significantly boost demand for HVAC systems worldwide. Goldman Sachs analysts have identified 42 global companies with "Buy" ratings that are positioned to benefit from this surge in cooling needs. They project a 7% increase in global HVAC demand to 114 million units in 2024, with per capita demand rising by 6%. Asia continues to be the largest market for residential HVAC, driven by countries like Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. However, Europe is also emerging as a significant demand driver due to historically low AC adoption rates in countries such as Germany, the UK, and France. This increased HVAC adoption in Europe is expected to lead to higher power demand. Beyond the HVAC sector, El Niño also poses inflationary risks, particularly through food prices, which could be exacerbated by existing high fertilizer costs. India is noted as particularly exposed to both growth and inflation risks due to El Niño's impact. Other regions like Brazil and Mexico are also expected to experience inflationary impulses. Goldman Sachs provided a list of companies poised to benefit, including prominent names like Carrier, Johnson Controls, and GE Vernova.
