Google Meet is introducing a beta feature called Room Display mode for enhanced "Bring Your Own Device" meeting spaces. This dual-window experience is designed for when users connect a personal laptop to a shared external display. Historically, using shared displays involved complex window management and the risk of exposing personal browser content. Room Display mode simplifies this by splitting the interface into two distinct views upon joining a call.The Shared View appears on the external display, offering a full-screen, distraction-free presentation of remote participant videos and shared content. Users can expand this view to full screen. Simultaneously, the Personal View on the laptop screen acts as a private control center. This view includes meeting controls, peripheral selections, participant lists, chat, and the "Ask Gemini" panel. It also shows the active presentation with speaker notes, allowing for private management of the meeting.This feature aims to make running meetings on shared displays more seamless and professional, especially in hybrid work environments. It requires a Chromium-based browser with Window Management permissions enabled. Room Display mode will be the default joining option when a laptop is connected to an extended external display. Users can provide feedback directly through the Personal View interface. The feature will gradually roll out starting August 19, 2026, and is available across various Google Meet editions.
