Elon Musk is offering voters $1 million to sign his PAC petition. Is it legal?

Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of Tesla and Space X, has pledged to give away $1 million a day until the Nov. 5 election to people signing his political action committee's petition supporting the First and Second Amendments. Musk's America PAC is aiming to register voters in support of Republican Donald Trump, whom Musk has endorsed. Some election law experts are raising red flags about the giveaway, as it requires registration as a prerequisite to become eligible for the $1 million check. This could violate the law, as it prohibits paying people for registering to vote or for voting. Musk's PAC is touring Pennsylvania, a critical election battleground, and is also pushing to persuade voters in other key states. Trump, who was campaigning in Pennsylvania, said he hadn't followed Musk's giveaway but called Musk a friend and great for the country. The legality of the giveaway is being questioned by experts, with some arguing it could be illegal due to its close proximity to Election Day and the requirement for registration.
