Elon Musk’s Grokipedia goes live in a bid to compete with crowdsourced Wikipedia

Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, an online encyclopedia designed to compete with Wikipedia. Musk aims for Grokipedia to be a source of "truth" and has previously criticized Wikipedia, which is run by a non-profit organization. Grokipedia, developed by Musk's xAI, features a search bar and currently claims a much smaller article count compared to the established Wikipedia. Users can search for topics on Grokipedia in a similar way to Wikipedia, such as pop culture, history, and current events. The sources used for Grokipedia articles and their creation process are not fully transparent. Some sources suggest Grokipedia uses the same AI model as Musk's Grok chatbot and possibly adapts content from Wikipedia. The Wikimedia Foundation is still evaluating how Grokipedia functions, highlighting Wikipedia's strengths such as transparent policies. Wikipedia is used to train AI models, and is often criticized by political groups for alleged bias, something Grokipedia also accuses Wikipedia of. Grokipedia's entry on Wikipedia critiques the site for ideological biases, particularly a perceived political slant. The Wikimedia Foundation emphasizes Wikipedia's commitment to informing readers neutrally.
