Gmail users gained the ability to react to emails with emojis in 2025, offering a quick and informal way to respond. This feature initially required users to opt in, allowing early access and user feedback. Starting February 9, 2026, emoji reactions in Gmail will be enabled by default for all users. Organizations retain the ability to disable this feature through the Admin console at any time and it will not become enabled by organizations that have previously modified it. Emoji reactions allow users to express gratitude, vote on polls, or congratulate others with visual cues. However, emoji reactions might not function in emails received through Google Group aliases. Admins must manage the setting in the Admin console before February 9, 2026, to prevent automatic enablement. End-users can best utilize emoji reactions through the Gmail app on Android, iOS, or Gmail.com. The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers and will be enabled by default unless changes are made by the administrator.
