Epic Games has unveiled a preview of its new AI-generated Games Launcher, boasting a significant speed improvement over Steam. A third-party benchmark revealed that Epic's client cold-starts 46% faster, achieving this in 5.47 seconds versus Steam's 10.07 seconds. Restoring the launcher from the system tray is also quicker, with Epic's client taking 0.36 seconds compared to Steam's 0.42 seconds. Beyond speed, the updated launcher features an improved interface with dedicated title summary pages and customizable top bars. Players will also benefit from the ability to aggregate external PC game libraries within the new client. It offers toggleable grid or list views for game browsing. Additionally, users can monitor storage write rates alongside their download queues. A key upcoming feature is the support for Fortnite on Linux. This will be facilitated once Easy Anti-Cheat is rebuilt and necessary security agreements are in place with Linux distributions.
