ESMA consults on CCP participation requirements
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) initiated a public consultation today regarding draft Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS). These RTS focus on the criteria Central Counterparties (CCPs) should use when defining participation requirements. ESMA's consultation seeks stakeholder feedback on admission criteria for CCPs. It also seeks input on assessing non-financial counterparties' ability to fulfill margin and default fund obligations. All interested parties, especially CCPs and their participants, are encouraged to participate. Input from direct, indirect, and potential CCP participants is welcomed, including both financial and non-financial counterparties. The consultation aims to define clear standards for CCP participation. The deadline for submitting responses is January 5, 2026. ESMA will then create a final report based on the feedback received. The final draft RTS will be submitted to the European Commission by the end of the first quarter of 2026. Further information can be obtained through the contact provided.
