ESMA publishes its first Climate Transition Plan

ESMA, the EU's financial markets regulator, released its inaugural Climate Transition Plan. The plan aligns ESMA's operations with EU climate goals, aiming for significant greenhouse gas emission reductions. Specifically, a 15.4% reduction is targeted for 2027 and 31.4% for 2030, relative to 2023 levels. The plan focuses on reducing the carbon footprint of staff travel, energy use, and procurement. Short-term actions include implementing an annual GHG budget for air travel and optimizing office space usage for energy savings. Incentives for sustainable goods and services will also be introduced. This initial plan will be regularly reviewed and updated as more data becomes available. ESMA will report annually on its progress through its Annual Report and Environmental Statement. The plan represents a significant step towards decarbonizing ESMA's operations.
