ESMA publishes latest edition of its newsletter
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has released its latest Spotlight on Markets newsletter, focusing on key developments in EU financial markets during October 2024. The newsletter highlights the European Supervisory Authorities' (ESAs) efforts to streamline access to financial and sustainability information through the European Single Access Point (ESAP). ESMA, alongside national authorities, launched an EU-wide campaign to combat financial fraud and scams. The ESAs published their 2024 Joint Report on principal adverse impacts (PAI) disclosures under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), highlighting improvements in the accessibility of PAI information by financial institutions. ESMA also issued its first consolidated Report on Sanctions, revealing that over 970 administrative sanctions and measures were imposed across EU Member States in 2023, resulting in fines exceeding 71 million euros. ESMA's 2024 EU Carbon Markets report delves into the functioning of the EU Emissions Trading System market, while the agency also published two consultation papers – one on technical advice under the Prospectus Regulation and another on amendments to the MiFID research regime – and a Call for Evidence on Prospectus Liability. In collaboration with the European Central Bank and the European Commission, ESMA announced the next steps for the transition to T+1 governance.The newsletter features a comprehensive overview of ESMA's publications, including reports on accounting for carbon allowances, transparency in financial markets, and corporate reporting enforcement priorities.
