ESMA publishes the register of external reviewers under the EuGB Regulation

The European Securities and Markets Authority has published a register of firms authorized to act as external reviewers of European Green Bonds. External reviewers play a crucial role in ensuring that the use of proceeds of European Green Bonds aligns with EU Taxonomy requirements. They also help boost investor confidence by verifying that their capital supports the green transition. As of June 22, 2026, registered external reviewers are subject to ESMA supervision and must comply with the EuGB Regulation requirements. These requirements include senior management accountability, analytical capabilities, robust methodologies, internal controls, and conflict of interest management. The transitional regime under the EuGB Regulation has ended, and external reviewers listed in the transitional regime register must cease their activities. ESMA has created a separate register for transparency about disclosure requirements for previously issued European Green Bonds. Issuers planning to issue a European Green Bond should consult ESMA's register to select a registered external reviewer. ESMA will regularly update the register to reflect changes in registration status and include newly approved applications. The publication of the register is a key step in ensuring the integrity and transparency of the European Green Bond market, and further information is available from the ESMA Communications Officer.
