FBI Arrests Saudi OpenAI Employee For Planting Recording Device In Conference Room
An OpenAI employee, Abdulrahman Alfozan, was arrested after a sophisticated recording device was discovered in the company's executive conference room. Alfozan, a Saudi national, allegedly hid the device to secretly record sensitive communications. The FBI moved quickly to make an arrest after the device was found. OpenAI confirmed an employee planted the device and that the individual has since been terminated. The device was reportedly intended to capture information about the company's superintelligence technology. Alfozan is also a partner at Raed Ventures, a venture capital firm. Raed Ventures had recently announced new partnerships, including a member of the Saudi royal family. Alfozan's past roles include positions at Meta, Microsoft, and SAP. OpenAI stated there is no indication that Alfozan accessed or exfiltrated company data or code. The company emphasized its commitment to protecting its technology, data, and people.
