From Here to the Great Unknown by Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough review – a book built on grief

Lisa Marie Presley's memoir is a candid and revealing account of her life, completed by her daughter Riley Keough from taped interviews before her death. The book defies expectations of a sanitized memoir, instead offering a raw and honest portrayal of Presley's life. It covers her marriages, including those to Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage, as well as her struggles with opioid addiction. Presley's addiction began after a caesarean section to deliver her twins, and she openly discusses her struggles with it. The memoir also addresses the tragic death of her son Ben Keough, who took his own life in 2020. Presley kept her son's body on dry ice in her home for two months after his death. Riley Keough co-authored the book, aiming to present her mother as a "three-dimensional character" rather than a one-dimensional figure. Keough's own words appear throughout the book, particularly towards the end. Lisa Marie Presley passed away in 2023 at the age of 54 due to complications from bariatric surgery. The memoir offers a unique and intimate look at Presley's life, free from the glamour and mystique often associated with her family's legacy.
