Fuel Rationing Reaches Moscow Amid 'Second Wave' National Shortages
Ukraine has intensified its drone campaign against Russia for months, primarily targeting oil refineries and industrial sites. Recently, these attacks have extended to online retail and private businesses. One of the largest drone waves hit the Moscow region with approximately 600 drones, causing panic and casualties. Compounding the issue, fuel sales restrictions have been implemented at Moscow gas stations, a rare occurrence for the capital. Major oil companies like Gazprom Neft and Tatneft have confirmed limits on gasoline and diesel purchases per customer. Rosneft, Russia's largest oil producer, also imposed a limit on gasoline sales nationwide. The companies cite "unscheduled refinery maintenance" as a reason for delays, implicitly acknowledging damage from Ukrainian drone attacks. This past Wednesday, Ukrainian drones reportedly struck an oil refinery and a residential building in Bashkortostan, demonstrating the drones' considerable range. Russian officials have begun acknowledging a renewed fuel shortage crisis, described as the "second wave" of shortages this year. The impact of these attacks is leading to long queues and frustration at gas stations across Russia.
