Gen Z's fading AI hype

Gen Z's enthusiasm for artificial intelligence has notably declined in the past year, showing decreased excitement and increased anger. This shift contrasts with the growing acceptance of AI among workplace leaders and educational institutions. The proportion of Gen Z members feeling excited about AI has significantly dropped, mirroring a decrease in hopefulness. Conversely, the percentage of those feeling angry towards AI has risen, with older Gen Z members expressing the most negative sentiments. This negative sentiment may result from the perceived threat AI poses to entry-level job opportunities. The report suggests daily AI users retain more positive emotions than infrequent users, although enthusiasm has waned across all usage levels. Despite this decline in sentiment, daily AI usage among Gen Z has remained largely stagnant. This indicates a reluctant acceptance of AI's permanence, despite the apprehension. A majority of Gen Z students believe they will need AI proficiency for college and classes, reflecting an understanding of its importance. Simultaneously, a larger proportion of students believe they will have the necessary AI skills after graduating high school. The study surveyed a representative sample of Gen Z individuals across the United States. The findings indicate a generation both wary of and preparing for the pervasive influence of AI.
