AI Overviews is a new feature for Gmail search that provides concise summaries and answers to natural language questions. Previously limited to U.S. users, this functionality is now expanding globally to paid Gmail users with English as their set language. For administrators, Gemini for Workspace in Gmail and Workspace Intelligence access must be enabled for the feature to be on by default. End users require both "Smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet" and "Google Workspace smart features" to be enabled. The rollout began for Rapid Release domains on September 3, 2026, and for Scheduled Release domains on September 21, 2026. Personal Google accounts also began a gradual rollout on September 3, 2026. This feature is available across various Business, Enterprise, and Consumer plans. It is also accessible through specific Education and Other Add-ons.
