The web browser has become a central operating system for many digital tasks. Google's Chrome team has introduced three new productivity features to enhance browser-based workflows. These features aim to improve organization and reduce friction for users who spend significant time online.
One new feature is Split View, which allows users to display two tabs side-by-side within a single Chrome window. This eliminates the need for manual window resizing and helps users reference information while working. To activate Split View, users can right-click a tab and select the option to add it to a new split view.
Another significant update is the ability to annotate PDFs directly within the browser. Previously, users had to download PDFs and use external applications for basic editing like highlighting or note-taking. Now, a squiggle icon enables these actions without leaving Chrome. While not as extensive as some competing features, it streamlines PDF interaction.
Finally, Chrome now offers a "Save to Google Drive" option for PDFs. This feature allows users to bypass saving files to their local Downloads folder, which can often become disorganized. Clicking the Google Drive icon in the PDF viewer sends the document directly to a dedicated folder in Google Drive. This ensures files are backed up, organized, and accessible across devices, solving the common problem of lost downloads.
