Google DeepMind Veteran Raises $1.1 Billion For AI That Doesn't Train On Human Data
DeepMind veteran David Silver has launched a new startup called Ineffable Intelligence. This company has secured $1.1 billion in funding, valuing it at $5.1 billion. Silver, known for his work on AlphaGo, believes reinforcement learning is the key to achieving superintelligence, not large language models. Ineffable Intelligence aims to create AI "superlearners" that learn through simulations and self-play. Silver argues that current large language models are limited by their reliance on human-generated data. He likens this data to a "fossil fuel" compared to the "renewable fuel" of self-learning. This approach allows AI to build its own understanding through trial and error. AlphaGo's success in developing novel strategies exemplifies this potential. Ineffable Intelligence plans to place AI agents in simulations to develop and improve autonomously. Silver posits that AI learning through experience can overcome limitations inherent in static datasets.
