Google Workspace Weekly Recap ... Note

Google Workspace Weekly Recap - August 14, 2026

Google Sheets now offers improved file importing from Microsoft Excel, preserving formatting and linked data. Excel tables will import seamlessly as Sheets tables, and linked pivot tables backed by table ranges are now fully supported. Connected Sheets has received two usability enhancements for better data presentation and flexibility when analyzing BigQuery data. Sheets canvas, a new Gemini-powered feature, allows users to transform spreadsheets into custom, interactive mini-applications using natural language prompts. This creates dynamic visualizations layered on spreadsheet data for customized workflows. A new "Take Notes for me" feature is rolling out for Google Meet, aiding in-person meetings by simplifying note-taking. This functionality aims to help users stay engaged without sacrificing important information capture. New admin controls for Google Calendar invitations have been introduced. Administrators will now have more granular options for how event invitations are added to user calendars. Previously, administrators could only set a default value for their organization. These updates were recently published on the Workspace Updates blog.
