Google's Fitbit Edge Debuts a Replaceable Battery, Brings Back the Screen
Google has launched the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker priced at $179. It features a 1.34-inch OLED display and includes built-in GPS and ECG capabilities. A key innovation for Fitbit is its user-replaceable battery, a move aligning with Google's repairability goals for its Pixel Watch. The Fitbit Edge offers compatibility with both Android and iPhones through the Google Health app. Its capsule shape may appeal to those finding the Pixel Watch too bulky. The larger display compared to the Charge 6 provides more usable screen real estate for metrics. The Edge incorporates an altimeter for tracking elevation changes and floors climbed. It also utilizes a far-field skin temperature sensor for enhanced data collection. The tracker inherits features from the Fitbit Air while regaining built-in GPS and ECG sensors from the Charge 6. With a Google Health Premium subscription, the Edge can track blood pressure and insulin resistance trends.
