Google Workspace Updates

Granular OAuth consent in web apps and Google Workspace add-ons

Google is expanding a more granular OAuth consent screen, allowing users to authorize specific scopes for their Apps Script applications. This feature, already available for Apps Script IDE and unpublished web apps, will soon extend to published web apps and Google Workspace add-ons. The new consent screen empowers users to grant partial OAuth consent. Users can choose to grant access to only some requested permissions, like only Sheets files. Developers can use the ScriptApp and AuthorizationInfo classes to manage granted scopes. Developers can implement safeguards to handle situations where not all scopes are authorized. Existing OAuth grants will remain unaffected by this update. The rollout begins on January 7, 2026, for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. This update enhances user control over app permissions and improves security. There are no specific admin controls for this feature. The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual Subscribers.
