Nearly half of all recipients of Spain's Minimum Living Income (IMV) are foreign nationals. Of these foreign recipients, a significant majority are Moroccan. Previously unpublished figures reveal that 69,517 Moroccan nationals receive the IMV. In total, 139,446 foreign nationals are registered beneficiaries of the benefit. This means Moroccans constitute almost 50 percent of the total foreign IMV recipients. Previously, official statistics only distinguished between Spanish and foreign claimants. Romanians are the second-largest foreign group receiving the IMV, followed by Ukrainians. Colombians, Algerians, Italians, and Bulgarians also represent notable numbers of recipients. The data, however, counts only the primary recipient per household, meaning the actual number of beneficiaries is higher. These figures also exclude the Basque Country and Navarre which manage the IMV independently. Data suggests around 70 percent of working-age Moroccan women in Spain do not formally contribute to the employment system. This information is released amid reports of a large migrant influx from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
