Hard Evidence: Prosecutor Accused Of Having Romantic Relationship With Illegal Immigrant
Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has filed a petition to remove Ray County Prosecutor Camille Johnston from office. Johnston is accused of having a romantic relationship with an illegal immigrant facing sexual assault charges. She allegedly lived with the man and provided him with a vehicle to evade authorities. The individual, a citizen of Mexico, has been in the U.S. illegally since 2019. He was apprehended in Ohio and is awaiting trial for sexual offenses. Furthermore, Johnston is accused of similar relationships with a domestic violence defendant and a defense attorney. Her alleged actions created a hostile work environment, leading to the firing of a staff member who discovered one of the relationships. Hanaway stated that Johnston's conduct demonstrates a pattern of misconduct and neglect, undermining the integrity of her office. Missouri law allows for the removal of officials for misconduct or willful neglect of duty. A judge has issued a preliminary order temporarily removing Johnston from her position pending further court proceedings.
