Hermès’s hand-illustrated website is the ultimate luxury

Hermès has launched a new website featuring whimsical hand-drawn illustrations by French artist Linda Merad. These unique images, depicting sea creatures interacting with products, aim to convey the brand's emphasis on the handcrafted and human element. Merad's analog process, with its visible imperfections and texture, stands in contrast to flawless digital renderings. This partnership aligns with Hermès' long-standing tradition of celebrating artisanal craftsmanship. Merad was given significant creative freedom to develop her fantastical underwater world, incorporating Hermès products naturally into the artwork. The illustrations were developed for an Instagram campaign before being unexpectedly integrated into the e-commerce website. This marks Hermès' first use of illustrations on their website, a move initiated by the e-commerce team's appreciation for Merad's distinctive style. The project highlights a growing value placed on original, human-made art in an era of AI-generated imagery. Merad's personal preference for detailed, individual pieces over mass production led her to illustration. She believes the charm and soul inherent in hand-drawn art offer a more engaging experience for viewers.
