Moderate Democrats, including Representatives Scholten, Suozzi, and Moskowitz, attempted to remove the SAVE Act language but were unsuccessful. Many moderate Democrats indicated they would support a clean anti-socialism resolution but cannot vote for the SAVE America Act. Representative Scott Peters desires a clean resolution and wants no part of the SAVE America Act. Representative Brad Schneider criticized the bill, calling it the "Save the SAVE Act" despite its title. He described it as a voter suppression bill disguised as an anti-socialism measure. However, Representative Jared Golden indicated he would likely vote for the resolution, refusing to let the voter ID language deter him. Representative Henry Cuellar, the only Democrat to vote for the SAVE America Act previously, remained non-committal on his vote.
