How to use AI to give yourself a head start at a new job
Starting a new job involves a steep learning curve with many new projects, clients, and processes. While resources like handbooks and mentors are provided, new employees often have numerous unanswered questions. To navigate this, it's crucial to utilize all available company resources and familiarize yourself with core processes. Artificial intelligence can also be a valuable tool during this initial period. It's important to understand what AI resources the company offers and ensure proprietary data remains secure. Companies may already have AI agents designed to answer common questions and handle repetitive tasks. One productive use of AI is building custom agents or skills for recurring, repetitive tasks. This frees up employees to focus on their specialized expertise, but AI should augment, not replace, critical thinking and unique skills. Another AI application is creating a "thought partner" to discuss complex work problems. By feeding AI company documents and previous work examples, employees can refine their thinking and develop new approaches. Finally, AI can provide opportunities to practice new or challenging tasks in a simulated environment. By setting up AI to role-play different scenarios, employees can gain confidence and receive feedback before real-world interactions. This practice helps in developing skills like performance critique or negotiation.
