Hundreds Support Legal Defense for Engineer Charged with Destroying Flock Surveillance Cameras

An Air Force engineer named Jeffrey Sovern is facing multiple charges for allegedly damaging over a dozen AI-integrated surveillance cameras. The Virginia resident is accused of destruction of property, petit larceny, and possession of burglary tools. These actions were reportedly taken against Flock license plate cameras, which have been described as sometimes misdirected or thrown down. Sovern, with the support of privacy advocates, used tools like spray paint and chainsaws to protest the surveillance technology. He explained on a GoFundMe page that this type of vandalism has considerable underlying support. Sovern launched his legal defense fundraising campaign in late December 2025. His initial goal was to raise $8,500 for his legal expenses. The online fundraising effort has gained significant traction as his case has become more widely known. Currently, the legal fund has surpassed $23,000 with over 680 donors contributing. Sovern had also encouraged supporters to contact local governments to advocate for the removal of these surveillance systems.
