ICE arrested a TikTok influencer who livestreamed immigration raids
Tatiana Martinez, a TikTok influencer known for documenting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities, was arrested by ICE agents while livestreaming from her car. The 24-year-old was detained outside her Los Angeles home, with the arrest captured on video showing her being restrained on the ground. ICE stated Martinez was arrested due to a prior DUI conviction from 2023. However, her attorney, Carlos Jurado, suggested she may have been targeted for her online platform, which has over 40,000 followers. Jurado also claimed the DUI was not mentioned during the arrest and that Martinez passed out from trauma and required hospitalization. She is currently being held in Calexico, California, with a preliminary hearing scheduled. Social media is frequently used to alert communities about ICE activity, but those documenting it risk ICE attention. Martinez, originally from Colombia, has been in the U.S. for about four years. Her attorney conveyed that officers aggressively questioned her about recording ICE activities, implying a consequence. ICE's official account on X confirmed her arrest was related to the DUI conviction.
