Illegal Immigrant Killer Found Not Guilty By Insanity, Flees US During Hospital Leave

An illegal immigrant, Abdulloi Toshpulodzoda, found not guilty by reason of insanity for a 2019 killing, escaped the US on a one-way flight to Tajikistan. He was on an approved 48-hour pass from a state mental health facility when he fled. Toshpulodzoda had been committed to the facility after killing his landlord and was covered in the victim's blood. A Fairfax County judge had recently ruled that he still required hospitalization. This was not the first time he had been allowed outside of a secured ward without escort. Prosecutors in Fairfax County, led by Steve Descano, who receives funding from George Soros, are facing criticism for their approach to insanity pleas for violent illegal immigrants. Descano's office has pursued insanity agreements in numerous murder cases, and he has faced recall efforts over his record. A spokesperson for Descano's office stated that independent evaluators found Toshpulodzoda legally insane, leaving no path to conviction. This case is part of a pattern flagged by a group concerned about violent defendants, including illegal immigrants, being funneled toward insanity findings. The disappearance of Toshpulodzoda follows another instance where an accused killer was declared legally insane under an agreement with Descano's office. The Justice Department is investigating whether Descano's office provides preferential treatment to illegal immigrants.
