Improvements to Out-of-Domain file-level warnings
Google is enhancing its Out-of-Domain file warning system, originally launched in April 2025, to improve data security. These warnings alert users to files and individuals outside their organization, reducing the risk of data breaches. The update expands external indicators within Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps on Android and iOS. Users will now see external badges for documents shared within Chat Spaces and Google Groups, which now show external badges if given access. Service accounts owned by external Google Cloud organizations trigger these badges as well. Comment and file sharing email notifications now include the external badges for increased visibility. The feature is designed to identify risky files and thwart phishing attempts originating outside the organization. Admins can enable or disable these warnings at the domain and organizational level through the Google Workspace Admin console. The feature is enabled by default for all end users, with no specific user setting to adjust. The rollout is currently available to all Google Workspace customers using either Rapid Release or Scheduled Release domains. This update provides additional layers of security for users and data within the Google Workspace environment.
