Google is launching waiting rooms in Google Meet to improve meeting control and reduce interruptions. Hosts and co-hosts can now set up waiting rooms, allowing participants to wait before entering a meeting. This feature helps hosts prepare and manage attendees discreetly. Participants in the waiting room will see a message confirming their place. Hosts can admit or deny entry, send announcements, and even move participants back to the waiting room.
Waiting rooms are particularly useful for meetings needing more control, such as board meetings and interviews. The feature can be easily enabled when scheduling a Google Calendar event. Waiting rooms offer a clear and welcoming experience for attendees. The feature will be off by default initially for end users. Admins have the ability to change the default setting. The rollout officially starts on October 23, 2025 across all supported Google Workspace plans.
