Introducing an agentic commerce solution for merchants from PayPal and Google Cloud

Modern shoppers desire seamless, personalized online experiences, prompting merchants to seek better solutions. PayPal and Google Cloud are collaborating to introduce agentic shopping experiences to transform commerce. This partnership merges Google Cloud's Conversational Commerce agent with PayPal's payment system. Merchants gain the ability to deploy AI-powered commerce directly on their platforms, increasing engagement and conversion rates. The system utilizes the open Agent2Agent (A2A) Protocol for secure agent communication. The Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) facilitates secure transactions, incorporating verifiable digital credentials for accountability. Merchants can leverage Google's agent or create their own using the Agent Development Kit. The commerce agent assists shoppers with product discovery and selections using context from shopping history. The PayPal Agent provides a secure checkout experience, including payment method recommendations and "buy now, pay later" options. Consumer trust is prioritized through AP2, a payment-method agnostic protocol developed with industry partners. AP2 employs "mandates" – tamper-proof digital contracts using verifiable credentials – to prove user intent. This AP2-compliant system ensures user authorization, solidifying security and accountability during transactions. The partnership offers merchants an easy-to-implement solution.
