Introducing Filestore agent volumes: fully managed storage for agent workspaces
Executing data-driven tasks is crucial for enterprises, yet current agent storage solutions involve complex workarounds like shuttling state or manual disk management. These methods lead to trade-offs in latency, operational complexity, and cost as agent fleets scale. Organizations need storage that offers strict isolation, instant session resumption, pay-per-use economics, and fluid multi-agent collaboration. To address these needs, Google Cloud is introducing Filestore agent volumes, a fully managed, high-performance, elastic file storage solution. This new capability is specifically designed for scaling agentic workloads on Google Cloud, complementing dedicated compute environments like Agent Substrate on GKE. Filestore agent volumes provide instantaneous access to isolated, persistent file storage for GKE sandboxes, automating the entire volume lifecycle. Key benefits include granular isolation and enterprise guardrails, sub-second session resumption for cost-saving, smart lifecycle economics with pay-per-use pricing, and multi-agent collaboration through native RWX support. This solution unlocks various agentic workloads, such as software engineering sandboxes, collaborative multi-agent swarms, and interactive long-horizon workflows. Filestore agent volumes are currently available for non-production workloads, with production support via allowlist, offering seamless integration with GKE for scalable agent platforms.
