Introducing Google Cloud’s U4 compute: Enabling ultra-low latency trading

Capital markets demand predictable performance and low latency, facing limitations with traditional data centers. Google Cloud has launched its Ultra Low Latency (ULL) Solution to address these challenges. This solution combines the speed of co-location with cloud scalability and automation. It offers ultra-low latency networking and agility for high-frequency trading workflows in the cloud. The ULL Solution is built on three key pillars: hardware-level networking for data distribution, advanced networking observability for analysis, and deterministic high-performance compute for execution. These pillars provide capabilities like bare metal performance, high-performance storage, and physical traffic isolation. Hardware-accelerated multicast distribution bypasses traditional virtual switches for direct market data streaming. Accelerated packet processing and precision timing with UTC synchronization ensure accurate and predictable data handling. Built-in telemetry provides continuous low-latency packet capture for compliance and analytics without performance impact. The U4 machine family, featuring U4P, U4C, and U4S series, powers the ULL Solution with dedicated bare metal and high-performance VMs. This architecture enables core exchange systems and trading strategies to run in the cloud with the required speed and consistency. Storage options include fast local Titanium SSDs for logging and scalable Hyperdisk for archives. The ULL Solution is available in select Google Cloud regions, empowering financial markets with cloud benefits for today and future AI-driven trading.
