Iran Attacks At Least Two More Tankers In Gulf Waters In Past 24 Hours
Two more tanker attacks have occurred in Gulf waters and the Strait of Hormuz area within the last 24 hours. A tanker was struck by a projectile off the coast of Iraq, with the report emerging a day after the incident. Separately, another vessel was hit by an unknown projectile near the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire. Both incidents resulted in no reported injuries or environmental impact. Iranian state media is highlighting these attacks to exert political pressure on the Trump administration ahead of US midterm elections. Despite these attacks, Persian Gulf oil exports have recently surpassed prewar levels, supported by an improvised shipping system under US protection. However, global inventories are thin, making the situation precarious and potentially increasing consumer costs. Iran has informed Pakistan's Army Chief that its negotiation conditions remain firm. There are concerns that a full-scale war might resume after the US midterm elections. Diplomacy is currently being mediated by Qatar, similar to Oman's role before a past conflict. The US wants to focus talks on the nuclear issue, but Iran insists this can only be addressed after a permanent peace deal.
