Israel's Defense Minister has ordered the IDF to prepare for a prolonged occupation of southern Lebanon. He has also commanded an increased pace of destruction targeting what Israel defines as Hezbollah infrastructure. However, this definition often encompasses general civilian infrastructure, especially in Shi'ite Muslim communities. The IDF is framing the demolition of these villages, described as "Hezbollah fortresses," as "engineering activity," frequently involving artillery and incendiary munitions. Some villages are slated to be completely destroyed, and many already no longer exist due to extensive home demolition. A few non-Shi'ite villages remain but are under precarious occupation. Residents face threats of expulsion and destruction if any individuals are found to be armed. Even compliant villagers suffer restricted access to their farmland and olive orchards. The IDF imposes unspecified "no go" areas and occupies buildings within villages. Israel is also attacking Ali Taher Ridge, which offers strategic views of intended occupation zones.
