Justin Sun Prize’s New Round Honors Human–AI Collaboration on Erdős Problems

The Office of Justin Sun has announced the recipients of the inaugural Justin Sun Prize: Wouter van Doorn, Quanyu Tang, and Yanyang Li. These researchers are recognized for their significant contributions to solving several Erdős problems. Wouter van Doorn, an independent number theorist, and Quanyu Tang, a Ph.D. student, collaborated with Yanyang Li from Southeast University. Together, they solved Erdős Problem #650, which concerns matching integers to distinct multiples within a specified interval. Van Doorn also provided computer-checkable proofs for three other Erdős problems related to consecutive integers and prime factors. Tang independently resolved #1044 concerning polynomial-defined regions and contributed to the solution of #1196 involving weighted sums. Their work on #650 exemplifies the synergy between human insight and AI tools for mathematical discovery. ChatGPT aided in developing the proof strategy, while the AI system Aristotle helped refine the formal verification process. The researchers emphasized the value of public feedback and AI assistance in sharpening research questions and ensuring rigorous verification. The Justin Sun Prize aims to reward mathematical discovery and the creation of independently verifiable proofs. Prize information and recipient contributions are accessible via a public GitHub repository. Recipients can choose to receive their awards in USDT on TRON or USDC on Ethereum.
