Kremlin Blasts 'Unacceptable' Western Plan For Ukraine Security Guarantees

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen indicated plans for a multinational force in Ukraine, supported by the US. However, Russia has unequivocally rejected this proposal. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow will not discuss or accept any foreign troops in Ukraine, even as part of a peace deal. She emphasized that Russia views such intervention as fundamentally unacceptable and security-undermining. Zakharova suggested Western nations are wasting time discussing the matter without considering Russia's position. She also commented on Ukraine's losses, implying the European Commission's plans were overambitious given Russia's battlefield gains. Despite this, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that European leaders are prepared to offer security guarantees to Ukraine after a peace accord. While details remain confidential, Macron indicated preparations are complete, and allied defense ministers would discuss the issue. Russia has consistently communicated its stance against foreign intervention, a message that seemingly has not resonated in Western capitals. President Putin, observing military events in Beijing, asserted Russia's battlefield momentum and stated that if the conflict isn't resolved peacefully, Russia will achieve its objectives militarily. He also suggested that Ukrainian President Zelensky would need to come to Moscow for any meaningful meeting, and only after substantial agreements are reached.
