Google Docs is introducing a new feature allowing users to create audio versions of their documents using Gemini. This allows for a more engaging and accessible way to consume content. Readers can access a "Listen to this" tab option to hear the document read aloud. Authors have the ability to insert customizable audio buttons directly into their documents for easy playback. This feature offers clear, natural-sounding voices and allows for customization of voice and playback speed. It is particularly useful for absorbing information better or for catching writing errors. The audio feature is currently available only in English and on desktop. Users need smart features and personalization enabled to access Gemini. Administrators can manage these settings through the Admin console. The rollout begins on August 18, 2025, for Rapid Release domains and August 25, 2025, for Scheduled Release domains. This functionality is available for various Google Workspace editions and add-ons.
