Majority Believes They Will Achieve The American Dream
Despite challenges, a significant majority of Americans still believe in their personal American Dream, with 69 percent expecting to achieve it in their lifetime. However, this personal optimism contrasts with a more sobering view regarding others' prospects, as 54 percent feel not everyone can attain the dream. A notable 58 percent of Americans believe the American Dream is currently unfinished, reflecting a degree of disillusionment. This sentiment about the dream being unfinished is consistent across both Republican and Democratic parties. Republicans are more inclined to view the American Dream as successful and less likely to consider it a failure. When asked to define the American Dream, a third of respondents cited freedoms and individual rights. Financial stability or homeownership was mentioned by 28 percent of participants. Explicit mention of upward mobility was made by only 18 percent. This indicates a complex and multifaceted understanding of the American Dream in contemporary society.
