Mandiant Academy: Basic Static and Dynamic Analysis course now available

Mandiant Academy's new "Basic Static and Dynamic Analysis" course aims to demystify malware analysis for IT professionals. This practical, hands-on course equips participants with essential skills for digital forensics, threat research, and threat hunting. It focuses on analyzing malicious files without requiring extensive prior knowledge. Students will utilize a dedicated virtual machine to safely detonate and examine malware samples. The course teaches static analysis by exploring the Portable Executable (PE) file format, extracting metadata, and identifying strings. Dynamic analysis involves observing malware in a controlled environment, monitoring system and network activity, and unpacking processes. Upon completion, participants will be able to explain malware analysis basics, understand Indicators of Compromise (IOCs), create safe analysis environments, and triage malicious PE files. The curriculum includes detailed modules on both basic static and dynamic analysis techniques. While programming experience is not mandatory, a foundational understanding of binary data and operating systems is recommended. This training is part of Mandiant Academy's broader educational offerings designed to enhance cybersecurity defenses.
